What is Massage Therapy?

It is designed to decrease the effects of everyday occupational stress, chronic pain conditions and the over-use of muscles with many positive side effects for the conditions discussed below. Managing the soft tissue of the body including ligaments, tendons, joints, connective tissue and the muscles is the core focus of this type of treatment.

With over ten year’s experience under her belt, Wendy has dealt with many clients with various medical needs, and offers her clients respect at all times.

*It is recommended to consult your Doctor / Specialist before undertaking any other treatments as some can be contradicting to your condition.

Cancer

Massage has many positive outcomes for Cancer patients.  For patients having treatments such as chemotherapy and surgery, have noticed reductions in pain, fatigue, nausea, anxiety and depression.  Massage Therapy can improve sleep, the health of scar tissue, quality of life, mental clarity and alertness and also range of movement.  Light, relaxing massage can safely be given to people at all stages of cancer, however tumour sites should not be massaged to avoid discomfort and pressure on underlying organs.  Massage does not affect the cancer cells throughout the body via the lymphatic system, lymphatic circulations occurs naturally as we move.

People with disability

(Spastic Cerebral Palsy / Multiple Sclerosis)

A lot of people with disabilities find that their strength is tied up within their bodies, the tendons grow thicker over time and become, in a sense, fused together.  The lack of movement can cause tension and tightness within the body.  Massage helps to free up these issues and can aid in improved movement, even if it is in a small way.  Stretching, heat application and traditional physical therapy can also be of great benefit.

Circulation

Poor circulation is not always just cold feet and hands, it can be due to heart and kidney problems, high blood pressure, varicose veins and organ damage (always consult your physician). Poor circulation can create an accumulation of lactic acid in the muscles.  Good circulation brings damaged, tense muscles the rich, blood they need to heal by moving blood through congested areas, creating new blood flow, flushing lactic acid from the muscles and improving the circulation of the Lymph fluid which carries waste away from muscles and internal organs, resulting in lower blood pressure and improved body function.  If you suffer from limited mobility or impaired vascular function a regular massage therapy can help improve this.

Rehabilitation

Remedial massage treatment can achieve a desired outcome such as increasing the range of motion, improving circulation via the manipulation of muscles, tendons and ligaments.  Accurate assessment and treatment is producing evidence of the benefits of remedial massage therapy.  Rehabilitation can include Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Psychology and massage.

Stroke

Scientific studies have shown that massage can benefit stroke patients in various ways.  It can increase mobility, decrease pain and depression and, thus can lead to the use of less medication.  There are various massage techniques can also benefit stroke victims in cases of fatigue, insomnia and cramps.
